Advanced Directives
In the State of Maryland, each individual has the right to request/refuse medical treatment subject to the State's interest in protecting innocent third parties, and to make Advance Directives or to execute Powers of Attorney that authorizes others to make decisions on their behalf.
The Surgical Center of Greater Annapolis does not honor Advance Directives. Our health care providers are bound to do all in their power to assure the safe recovery of every patient, including resuscitation if necessary.
If an adverse event were to occur during your treatment at the Surgical Center, we would initiate resuscitative measures to stabilize the patient for transfer to an acute care facility. Once at that facility, further treatment or withdraw of treatment measures will be in accordance with your wishes, Advance Directive or Health Care Power of Attorney. Your agreement with this facility's policy will not revoke or invalidate any current health care directive.
If you wish to complete an Advance Directive, ask the Surgical Center staff upon arrival, or download a copy here.
